Juneau Police Department Records Request

The Juneau Police Department records request process is written-request only. JPD does not accept verbal requests. You can use the electronic form on the JPD website, mail a written request, or come in person to the department at 6255 Alaway Avenue, Juneau AK 99801. Insurance companies and attorneys may submit on agency letterhead instead of using the JPD form. Once your request is in the queue, JPD processes it in the order received and will send you a status update within five business days.

Required information on a JPD records request includes your name, Social Security number, date of birth, the date and location of the incident, the case or incident number if you have it, and your reason for requesting the records. If you do not have a case number, the date and location help the Records unit locate the right file. Denial letters are sent by US mail or delivered in person. There is no phone notification of denials.

JPD is currently short-staffed. Longer than normal wait times are expected for requested records. Plan ahead if you have a deadline. The Records Supervisor can be reached at 907-586-0620. For general non-emergency calls, the number is (907) 586-0600.

Certain records are not releasable. Open investigations and pending cases where a suspect has been identified but not yet adjudicated are not available to the general public. Justice partners may receive active case materials under JPD policy. Confidential information is redacted under state and city laws before any records go out. Reports from third parties, such as hospitals or fire departments, are not released through JPD. If your record involves a sealed or expunged case, the clerk responds that no records exist for that person, and inspection requires a court order.

The JPD Records Request page shows the electronic form, delivery options, and details on what information you need to include to get your request processed.

The page also explains how government agencies can receive records by fax or email, which is a faster delivery channel than mail for those requestors.

Note: All JPD records dissemination is logged in the department's records management system, which is kept in locked metal cabinets and pass-code protected digital storage to maintain a complete audit trail.

For incidents in the Juneau area that fell under AST jurisdiction, contact the Juneau Trooper Post at (907) 465-4000.

Note: The Alaska Sex Offender Registry at sor.dps.alaska.gov is publicly searchable by name or location under AS 12.63.100 and includes registrants in the Juneau area.

Statewide Records Tools for Juneau Residents

The Alaska CourtView system is free and covers all trial courts statewide. For Juneau, that means First Judicial District cases are searchable without an account. You can look up criminal cases, civil matters, and case status by name or case number. This is often the fastest first step before deciding whether a formal records request is needed.

The Alaska State Troopers Daily Dispatch publishes call-for-service summaries from DPS units across the state. It does not have the detail of a full incident report but can help you confirm that a call occurred and identify which agency responded. For full reports, you still need a formal records request from the right department.

The Alaska Department of Public Safety HQ is at 5700 E Tudor Rd, Anchorage AK 99507, (907) 269-5511.
